Rosson of Transy

In the late seventies, the Marshwood and Transy breeding herds were the most important of that time. And Klaas got deeper into the bloodlines. It was clear to him that if he wanted to get success he had to get a really good stallion with if possible, an English pedigree.

Rosson was already famous, then. He was only eight years old when he was imported by the known combination Vaessen/Martens and immediately became champion of The Netherlands. After a few years it came out that Rosson not only made great appearance but also had great genes. Amongst others, Ollive van de Kortedijk is a daughter of Rosson. She is the parent strain of Stal de Veldhoeve, owned by the family de Wit from Onnen.

His offspring often became champions and with that he built a impressive reputation. Through the years, this reputation was recognized and confirmed more than a few times. In the end, Rosson was sold to Stal Bunswaard. But in november 1981 Klaas was able to buy this excellent stallion and never had to regret that. Rosson is a real great acquisition and he became the base for our current breeding herd.

Yvette en Michelle both know nothing else than that Rosson was always there. And Rosson always was really more like a family member than a pony. After 32 years of great health, Rosson died while sleeping. He was never sick not for even a day - those are greatest, aren't they?

rosson

Rosson combined great with Orchidee van Spuitjesdom, you could even say that it was a golden couple. From them came the offspring Viola, Zeger, Adelheid, Carolientje, Diamond, Excellent en Fleur! These ponies, who became approved studs, stallion mothers and mothers of champions, have signatured our breeding herd and our name, but also have done so for other stables in The Netherlands.

After a few years, we hired out Rosson often throughout the whole country. Amongst others, at the combination Ordelmans/Molenkamp te Haaksbergen, the families Nijssen, van Doorn, Scheiberlich and also at Stal ’t Hof he covered well. Actually he saw most of the Netherlands in his life. This was proved by the offspring that was present in a specially prepared show for Rosson at the Millenniumexamination in Den Bosch.
Accompanied by two Scottish bagpipe players, Rosson was cheered in the year 2000, when he reached the respectable age of 30 years. The oldy guy showed off with a string of offspring behind him and proved his qualities and successfull efforts for the Dutch breedery.

We will remember Rosson as a true great and valuable stud that meant a lot to us, as a family and as stable. It shocked us greatly that he died unexpectedly on a tuesday afternoon.

The history of Stal Amstelhof

As a child I first encountered a Shetlander pony that lived with our neighbours, the family Jongkind. Around the year 1960 they started breeding Shetlanders. I stayed with them a lot as a child and finally I got a birthday present a foal named Bobinette van Aalsmeer: a multi-coloured daughter of Jaap van het Meer.

As many before me found out, only 1 pony isn't the way to work with them. Ponies are pack animals so we thought to develop ourselves (my father joined me by that time because he became interested as well) we had to expand. And for that we had to obtain a different kind of pony. This led us to the family Bakker in the Northern province of Holland where they imported Marshwoodproducts.
So we started by buying Benita van de Geuzenbuurt, daughter of Spear of Marshwood. This was an imported mare without any known papers. Eventually she surprised us by reaching the 1st approved mare and in the end even the champion of North Holland, the province.

That success really got us going and we found out which things are important. Bloodlines seemed to be important amongst other things that we focussed upon. It was a long road to breed a bloodline of our own and that is wat we still do.

We trie to reach our goals in making a breeding heard that is an equivalent of other high quality Shetland pony breeding heards throughout Europe. Our example in this is the famous Marshwood breedery which has done great work in the past years.
